When analyzing political communication, it’s extremely important to pay attention to word choice. The English language is incredibly diverse, and can be appropriated for many different purposes. Therefore, it’s not surprising that people of different political persuasions speaking the same language tend to have a completely different vocabulary in their messaging.
The left and right are both known for their buzzwords. For conservatives, “liberty,” “family values,” and words with religious connotations come to mind. For progressives, “equality,” “progress,” and similar community-minded phrases serve the same purpose.
But, the video below looks a bit deeper in that, and zeroes in on a common word used by leftists in particular to advance their agenda. It may seem harmless enough on the surface, but the true sinister intent of the left is revealed when you actually dissect the language.
This word is “power,” and it’s used a lot more often than you probably think. Articles thrown around by left-leaning outlets like Salon, Buzzfeed, HuffPost and others typically use the word to describe everything from transgenders transitioning to politicians trying to justify why they need more of your money to fund their pet projects.
