In recent years, the New York Times has been no stranger to embarrassing itself. Ever since the paper put resisting President Donald Trump ahead of fair and unbiased reporting, the New York Times has become merely a shadow of the respectable publication that it used to be. Most recently, though, the New York Times released one of its most embarrassing articles to date when they tried to expose Trump’s tax returns.
To be fair, the paper was able to publish Trump’s much-talked-about tax returns; the only problem is that they are more than twenty years too late. While seeing Trump’s more recent tax returns would equate to breaking news, publishing his tax returns from over twenty years ago tells us nothing we don’t already know and makes the New York Times look more desperate and incompetent than ever before.
To make matters worse for the paper, there wasn’t even anything newsworthy in the tax returns that they did manage to find and publish. Trump’s tax returns from over twenty years ago show only two things – that Trump makes a lot of money and, like every American, he tries to lower his taxes as much as possible using the laws and loopholes that are available to him.
It’s almost sad to see how far the New York Times has fallen. At the same time, though, it is vindicating to see their efforts to attack Trump backfire so badly.
