New Emails Reveal Ilhan Omar is in Shambles Over “Brother Marriage”

In 2016, Ilhan Omar sent a statement out to reporters saying, “I’m not legally married to two people, but I am legally married to one and culturally married to the other.”

This statement was sent out at a time when Omar was running for a position as a state representative. Now, three years later, new internal emails have been released documenting the chaos in the Ohmar campaign as staffers attempted to deal with the fallout of her sham marriage story.

It’s bad enough that Omar is technically married to two different men. To make matters worse, though, Omar spent years illegally filing joint tax returns with the man that she is not legally married to. All of this scandal created quite a whirlwind in Omar’s campaign, as staffers tried to deal with the damage and limit the amount of media attention on Omar’s sham marriage story. Their efforts were largely successful, as Omar won her state election in 2016 and was later elected to Congress in 2018.

Now under the spotlight of being a member of Congress, though, the story of Omar’s marriage fraud has resurfaced.
