Liberal Host Bill Maher Decries Blanket Gun Bans

The culture war is real, and the differences between those on the far left and everyone else really do seem intractable. It’s gotten so bad, that it really seems like we’re a Balkanized people and nothing can reunite us. It’s like a marriage gone wrong and we’re seemingly on our way inevitably into a bitter, contentious divorce.

If the left keeps pushing to deprive us of our right to speak freely, if they keep threatening our livelihoods — even our right to own property and the safety of our families — this will end in a civil war. How could it not?

But there may be another way. It could be that most people are actually far more reasonable than the loud and angry professional left. It could be that the loons are the true minority — the real lunatic fringe. It could just be that all we have to do is reach out to the moderate left.

Make no mistake, we will have major disagreements with them too. The left and the right have always had strong disagreements. We are SUPPOSED to have major disagreements. But we are supposed to remain civil and work together.

As it happens, there are liberals who do agree with us on some points — liberals who honestly hold a liberal worldview who also understand that we have to live in this country together and do our best to get along. TV comedian Bill Mahar may be one of those liberals.
