Ivanka Trump and Marco Team Up For Conservative Paid Family Leave Plan

Senator Marco Rubio and the president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, are working on a paid family leave bill.

Paid family leave is usually something within the Democrat purview and not something normally thought of coming from the Republican Party. Even so, a paid family leave bill would help families who have newborns adjust to their new addition. This is what Senator Rubio had to say about it.

“We’re just beginning the work. The president mentioned it last week in his State of the Union as a priority of his, and that is a good thing. As conservatives, we’re pro-family, and the ability to have families stay home longer with their children after the birth of their child, without putting a mandate or a burdensome requirement on their employer is a positive thing that we should be for,” the Florida senator said.

When asked if there was support for this kind of bill with the Republicans, Senator Rubio stated, “Well, we have some work to do. We have to have a proposal, but we’re working hard on it and I am optimistic.”

Certainly it would prove interesting what kind of arrangement the senator has in mind that would not be a mandate or a “burdensome requirement” for the employer. Perhaps incentives for companies that give their employees paid time off? We’ll have to see what is in the bill when it is presented in the Senate.

Hear Senator Rubio himself explain the plan in the video below.
