At one point, it seemed as if former Vice President Joe Biden was a lock to win the 2020 Democratic nomination. Given his weak field of competition, all Biden needed to do was not mess up too badly and the nomination was his. Since then, though, Biden’s campaign has been haunted by one mistake and controversy after the other. Now, after his shady dealings in Ukraine were made public, Biden’s campaign is starting to crumble.
The controversy that may end up serving as the nail in the coffin for Biden’s presidential hopes took place when Biden was vice president. After being tasked to help rid Ukraine of corruption, Biden did the exact opposite and used his powers as vice president to promote the financial interests of his son, Hunter – who had secured a lofty position on the board of Ukraine’s largest private gas company.
Investigations into this issue are almost certainly forthcoming, and – if the accusations against Biden turn out to be true – his once-promising campaign is likely over.
