Is Denmark Really a Socialist Country?

Denmark is doing well, really well. It also taxes its people at an exorbitantly high rate. To most western conservatives, this seems like a contradiction. To Democrats, it looks like socialism.

For those reasons, the Democrats always point to Denmark as their shining example of the one-time socialism has worked.

But Denmark is very different from the United States. The reasons that Denmark is doing so well is because there is a huge amount of cultural stability in that country. They have a solid culture, a singular heritage, and very little crime. But that’s not all that’s unusual. Denmark may have huge tax rates, but it also has very few government regulations over businesses.

Denmark is doing very well in spite of the heavy tax burden. The reasons they are able to survive crushing tax rates are their wonderful social cohesion and the lack of regulation. These things mean people are more able and willing to help each other. It also means that those who might otherwise be regulated out of a job can find work more easily since the government is less likely to stand in their way.

No little girls are having their lemon-aid stands torn down by cops in Denmark.
