Irony: Trump’s Plastic Straws Are Safer Than Paper Straws

It was a classic Trump move: slap the name on some plastic straws, rip the left-wing trend of paper straws that dissolve in your mouth as you drink something, and sell it as campaign merchandise. At this point, you can look back and say “of course Trump did that.”

And that was the beauty of it — at the time of writing, the Trump campaign for 2020 already raised upwards of $500,000 by selling the gag straws. By selling for about $15 for a pack of 10, you can tell where the money is coming from: ordinary Americans who just think this is funny. Even we didn’t expect the move to stay in the news cycle for much longer — the president made his point, and he’s cashing in on it.

But now we have a deliciously ironic development to talk about. As it turns out, the straws being sold by the Trump campaign are actually safer and better for the environment than the paper straws available at McDonald’s. Yes, really — you can’t make this up.

It wasn’t enough for Trump to troll the media and the culture — the campaign had to outclass its own product too. Here’s Tim Pool with more.
