How the Left is Fighting the Culture War
For years, the left has been fighting a cultural war in the United States – one that they are currently winning in a major fashion. While the left’s control of the media is a major source of their cultural victories, the primary tactic behind the left’s ability to win the cultural war has been the way they’ve shaped the language that we use.
In the book 1984, George Orwell describes a dystopian future where the language of the people is carefully controlled by the government in order to promote their agenda. This stark reality is one that we are now seeing come to life.
Those on the left gave a knack for taking horrible things and renaming them so that they come across as far less horrible. Mandates and taxes become “individual shared responsibility”, racial discrimination in higher education becomes “affirmative action”, global warming – a term that can be tested and challenged – becomes the far more ambiguous and difficult to challenge “climate change”, and the list goes on.
Meanwhile, the molding of language has also become a way for the left to censor views they don’t agree with. By convincing the population that any view outside of theirs is “intolerant” and “hate speech”, they are able to effectively silence conservative voices within American culture.
This war of words is one that the left has been waging with devastating results. Until those on the right realize that such a war is taking place and start to fight back, the left will continue to control the culture in the country.
