How Public Education is FAILING American Children
Our education system is broken. It’s a problem that both Democrats and Republicans recognize, though they propose differing solutions. Democrats argue that public schools simply need more money. Republicans, meanwhile, argue that the education system needs to be overhauled entirely, with an increased focus on private schools.
There’s a reason Republicans feel that private schools are the solution to our education woes – public schools have failed. They’ve failed because, like most all other things that the government takes over, public schools have zero competition and very little incentive to improve.
When competition vanishes, so does innovation. The reason that private schools flourish and produce students who are far better prepared and far better educated is the fact that their profits depend on it. If they don’t excel, they go out of business. Public schools, meanwhile, continue receiving their funding no matter how poorly they perform.
Throwing more money at this problem will not fix it. In fact, many private schools are able to produce far better results with less money than failing public schools receive. Our education system is responsible for building the foundation for the future of this country. If we don’t fix it and allow it to fail, we all fail.
