How Many Americans Want a Border Wall?
Building a wall between the border of the United States and Mexico was one of Trump’s most important promises during the 2016 election, and it was thanks largely in part to this promise that Trump was elected.
Since taking office, however, the president has faced incredible resistance to his border wall agenda from both the entirety of the Democratic Party and a significant portion of the Republican Party. To hear the mainstream media tell the story, Donald Trump is the only person still supporting the border wall. However, data from several recent polls tells a much different story.
According to a CBS poll, 51% of Americans are in favor of building a physical wall between the border of the United States and Mexico. According to one Harvard-Harris poll, the number of Americans who support a border wall is 54%. In other words, not only is Trump not alone in wanting a border wall, he’s joined by a majority of the people in the nation.
Of course, regardless of the mandate that he has been given by the American people, Trump still needs Congress to give him the funding for the border wall – something that they have so far been unwilling to do.
