When Peter Strzok – the disgraced FBI agent guilty of inappropriately partisan behavior while leading the investigation into then-candidate Donald Trump – was called to testify before Congress, everyone knew there was going to be some fireworks at the hearing.
The questions and remarks that Strzok faced were sharply divided along party lines. Democratic representatives called Strzok a hero, with one congressman even making the absurd suggestion that Strzok should be awarded a purple heart for the criticism he has faced. Republican representatives, meanwhile, took Strzok to task for the anti-Trump and pro-Clinton text messages that he exchanged with his mistress, questioning him about whether his obvious bias influenced the way the FBI carried out their investigation.
It was Texas Congressman Louis Gohmert that stole the show, however, with a question that he asked Peter Strzok about him cheating on his wife. Following Gohmert’s question, the chamber erupted into chaos, and for one glorious moment, the smug smirk was wiped from Peter Strzok’s face. It wasn’t long after that, though, that yet another Democratic representative went back to singing Strzok’s praises rather than asking difficult questions about his clearly inappropriate behavior.
