Experts: Security at Schools Must Be Escalated

While it’s true that every school shooting situation is a unique one, studies have shown that each incident actually has much more in common with others than people may have originally thought.

According to a study reported on by Campus Safety Magazine, ALL of the recent attacks on our nation’s schools were committed by males. 98% of those attackers had experienced (or perceived) a major loss just prior to the attack ,and 78% of them had a long history of suicide attempts, suicidal thoughts or, in some cases, both.

With the number of these incidents seemingly on the rise, it’s clear that steps must be taken to collectively address this problem head on. That is, essentially, where people stop agreeing on the best course of action from here on out.

There are some who insist that sweeping legislation outlawing guns is the only solution to such a problem. Others take the perspective best summarized by the old saying “the best defense is a good offense” – meaning that security in schools must be escalated at all costs in order to prevent these types of issues before they turn into mass shootings to begin with.

Columnist Ben Shaprio falls into the latter category, and recently reflect on this and other topics related to the gun control debate in the wake of the Florida massacre on his show.
