The primary purpose of free speech is to enable people who disagree with each other to develop new ideas that they would never dream of without the trying influence of the other. The secondary purpose of free speech is to coax those beholden to bad ideas out into the open where they can have their fetid ideas sterilized.
Try pointing that out in a gender studies class and set the clock on how long it takes for your fellow students to chase you off campus.
But why is the left so opposed to free speech? Why are they so afraid of hearing opinions they don’t like? The reason is their hearts are full of hate. They even say so in their own rhetoric. Their ideological master, Jacques Derrida, taught them that logic, thought, and argument are only means of obtaining power — the power to oppress.
There’s no good reason to believe that, of course. But the fact that they believe it means their own ideas are hateful. In case you haven’t noticed, they literally hate you. They want you disenfranchised, silenced, unemployed, and destroyed. The left invented political violence. The evidence is all over the parts of 20th-century history that are so hard to learn about in public schools.
