Paul Joseph Watson has famously declared that conservatism was the new counterculture. It’s an argument rooted in the fact that in spite of the disdain for conservatism among the media, the cultural influence of conservatism continues to grow as a resistance movement. It’s a valid point, however, it’s one that Comedy Central – a network that likes to fancy themselves to be fully in-tune with the current culture in the US – took issue with.
Comedy Central parodied Paul Joseph Watson’s comments in a recent piece that even an unbiased observer would have a hard time finding funny. Aside from a lack of real, hard-hitting humor, though, the piece entirely ignored the central point of Watson’s argument that conservatism is the new counterculture.
The focus of the Comedy Central piece is the fact that the GOP currently controls the Washington establishment. However, this fact in no way changes the reality that conservative culture in the US is growing in popularity while at the same time being attacked by the media establishment – in essence, making it the definition of a counterculture.
Nevertheless, one can’t really expect a leftist outlet such as Comedy Central to be any less bias or off the mark than other leftist media outlets. For more details on how Comedy Central targeted Paul Joseph Watson as well as his response, be sure to check out the video below.
