While Joe Biden has yet to officially announce his intention to run for president in 2020, it seems to be a certainty at this point that the former vice president will indeed throw his hat into the ring at some point. The question is, though, does Biden actually have a chance to win given the current landscape of the Democratic Party?
Despite being one of the most prominent figures in the Democratic Party, Joe Biden is a relic of the party’s former years. As the party has moved further and further to the left, politicians such as Joe Biden have been left behind. Today, there’s a good chance that Biden isn’t radical enough on social and economic issues to stand out in a party that is increasingly becoming controlled by far-left figures such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders.
From a conservative standpoint, having Joe Biden as president — while certainly less than ideal — would be a lot more palatable than most of the other Democrats to enter the race so far — which is exactly why winning the Democratic nomination could prove to be an uphill battle for Biden.
The 2016 election was a wild ride, but the 2020 election is shaping up to be just as dramatic. In a political climate that has become dominated by extremism, moderates such as Joe Biden may end up getting overlooked in the shuffle.
