Bernie Sanders Supporters Apparently Love the GOP Tax Plan
Despite billing himself as a champion of the middle class, Bernie Sanders has been staunchly opposed to a tax plan designed from the start to help the middle class. His supporters, however, are not so quick to oppose the GOP tax plan – that is, so long as it is presented to them as Bernie’s plan and not a Republican plan.
When presented with the main points of the GOP tax plan under the belief that it was Bernie’s plan, Bernie Sanders supporters seemed to think that the plan was a great idea which would help the middle class. To their credit, most all of the people interviewed remained positive about the plan even after they learned it was actually the GOP plan.
Results such as this say more about the consequences of media bias than they do about any one group of people. The Bernie Sanders supporters interviewed didn’t really know what was in the GOP tax plan going in – they only knew that they didn’t like it thanks to the constant bombardment by the media. Given the opportunity to learn what the plan entailed in a way where it was okay for them to agree with it, though, they were much more receptive to it.
