AOC Issues a Warning to Moderate Democrats
She might not have been in office very long, but New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is already making herself right at home telling other Democrats what to do.
After 26 Democrats in the House joined Republicans to vote in favor of a bill that would require ICE officials to be notified if an illegal immigrant attempts to purchase a firearm, Ocasio-Cortez issued a warning to moderate Democrats, saying that any Democrat who votes with Republicans is “putting themselves on a list.”
Now, many moderate Democrats aren’t too happy with the idea that they are somehow supposed to answer to a newly-elected socialist who secured a place in the House after receiving just 110,000 votes in a deeply blue district. In the wake of the backlash from several of her House colleagues, Ocasio-Cortez has tried to downplay her comments, but the damage was already done.
Ever since taking office, Ocasio-Cortez has been forcing Democrats to make a somewhat uncomfortable choice – either support her and her ridiculous policies at the risk of alienating moderate voters, or part ways with the supposed “new face of the Democratic Party” at the risk of riling up a very motivated and vocal base. Now that Ocasio-Cortez has chosen to threaten 26 Democrats over their belief that illegal aliens should not be able to purchase firearms, that choice may have become a little easier for some.
