AOC Doesn’t Understand Capitalism — OR Socialism
Every time that New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez opens her mouth, she gifts us all with another example of just how ignorant she really is. In one of her recent interviews, Ocasio-Cortez took the time to demonstrate that she doesn’t at all understand how capitalism or socialism works.
Ocasio-Cortez attempted to describe capitalism as a system where profits and the accumulation of wealth is prioritized above all else, including the needs of the people. This, however, is the exact opposite of reality. Capitalism as an economic system only works when both parties are fully satisfied with the transaction. In order to make money in a capitalist system, companies must provide a product or service that people want and need more than the money that it costs. In other words, the only way companies succeed is if everyone, especially their customers, benefit.
Under socialism, meanwhile, this mutually beneficial exchange is upended. Wealth is moved around and redistributed in a way that benefits some and hurts others. Ocasio-Cortez may attempt to portray socialism as a system where everyone’s needs are taken care of, but the reality is that socialism is uncaring about the needs of many people. It’s a forced redistribution of wealth that ends up hurting as many people as it helps.
