All the Democratic Candidates Have the Same Problem Going into 2020
The 2020 Democratic presidential field certainly doesn’t lack for quantity, as 24 different Democrats have announced their intention to run. Out of these two dozen different Democrats who aspire to replace Trump in the White House, though, none of them can match the President’s appeal.
The disconnect between the 2020 Democratic candidates and their voter base could not be more pronounced. While the economy and national security are at the top of most Americans’ list of priorities, Democratic candidates would much rather focus on minor social issues and blasting President Donald Trump. Their platform heading into the 2020 election is practically nonexistent, and while whoever wins the Democratic primary will certainly draw a lot of votes simply by opposing Trump, opposing Trump alone is not enough to win elections. This was a lesson that was made all too clear in the 2016 election.
With the next Presidential election right around the corner, President Trump is in prime position to secure another term. Unless one of the 24 Democrats who hope to run against him can step up and start actually appealing to a large number of voters, Trump looks to have a clear path to victory.
