Alabama Write-in Candidate Lee Busby Says He’s Not a ‘Spoiler’

The beleaguered people of Alabama have another option when they go to the polls this month; a retired Marine Corps veteran has entered the ring, according to a recent video posted by the Blaze.

Veteran Lee Busby, of Tuscaloosa joined the race for the senate last week, stating that neither of the candidates running were truly fit to serve.

This 60 year old Tuscaloosa resident is a conservative Republican who is presenting himself as an alternative to the scandal-plagued Judge Roy Moore and the overly liberal Democrat Doug Jones. Busby says that although he is entering the race at the 11th hour, he isn’t looking to be a spoiler candidate – he is entering to win the December 12 special election outright.

After serving in Iraq in the post-9/11 years, Busby began working as a defense contractor and a trainer in Afghanistan. He also worked for White House Chief of Staff John Kelly while in the military. Busby retired from the Marine Corps in 2013.

“I’m not happy with the two choices I had,” Busby said when asked why he was entering the race.

“I felt like there was a lot of people in Alabama who felt like me. The more [people] I talked to, the more sense that I got that there’s this huge swath in the middle that feels like they’re not represented there,” he continued.

Part of his campaign initiative will include educating Alabama voters on how to use the write in option; his late arrival to the race means Busby will not be listed on the ballot. Can he do it? Watch the video and get a sense for yourself.
